The Balvenie 21 Year Old Port Wood is a highly regarded single malt Scotch whisky produced by The Balvenie distillery. It is part of their core range and is known for its exquisite craftsmanship and unique maturation in Port wine casks. This expression begins with Balvenie’s signature 21-year-old whisky, which has already undergone a lengthy aging process in traditional oak casks. It is then transferred to casks that previously held fine Port wine to undergo a second maturation. This additional aging in Port wood casks imparts distinct flavours and characteristics to the whisky, resulting in a truly special release. The Balvenie 21 Year Old Port Wood offers a complex and refined flavour profile. The influence of the Port casks adds layers of rich, fruity sweetness to the whisky, with notes of ripe berries, dried fruits, and a hint of nuttiness. Rarely seen as a single malt, which allows independent bottlers to present this spirit to whisky lovers, Dailuaine spirit is heavy and meaty thanks to the long fermentation period, quick distillation and the use of stainless steel in the condensers.
Based in Aberlour in Speyside, Dailuaine was once the largest distillery in the region and, although that’s no longer the case today, capacity was increased by 25% in 2012.

On the nose there is a syrupy sweetness; akin to toffee apples and spiced ginger marmalade. This is followed by tangy gooseberry jam and vanilla custard on the palate. The finish is long, smooth and sweet.
